Trains to and from Bottesford

Bottesford Station offers simple, easy links across the East Midlands. Trains run west to Nottingham and east to Grantham and Skegness, usually every one to two hours. From Grantham, you can connect straight through to London King’s Cross or York. There’s also one daily train to Liverpool and a Sunday service to Norwich.

Arrive by Road — Simple, Scenic and Well-Connected

Driving to Melton Mowbray is wonderfully straightforward. Set between Leicester, Nottingham and Grantham, the town benefits from excellent A-road connections that make it easy to reach from anywhere in the Midlands and beyond.

Melton sits at the crossroads of two key routes:

  • A606 — connecting Nottingham to Oakham, Rutland
  • A607 — linking Leicester to Grantham

Melton’s central location means you’re never far away: just a 30-minute drive from Leicester and 30 minutes to the M1 motorway to the west. The A1 (Great North Road) is only 12 miles to the east, while it’s 21 miles northwest to Nottingham and 36 miles southwest to Peterborough. The A52 Nottingham to Grantham road runs through the northern edge of the Borough.

Longer journeys are just as straightforward, with direct routes from major cities including London (120 miles), Birmingham (50 miles) and Manchester (100 miles).

There are 9 council-owned public car parks in and around the centre of Melton Mowbray. There is one electric charging point which is located in Burton Street car park. 

Parking is free for the first 3 hours for Blue Badge Holders upon the display of a valid Blue Badge.

Visiting by coach couldn’t be simpler. Wilton Road Car Park (LE13 0UJ) offers dedicated, free coach parking — just a short walk from the town centre, shops, eateries and attractions. With five dedicated coach bays and extra capacity during busy periods, it’s an ideal base for tour groups of any size.

Coach parking at Wilton Road is completely free, making it an ideal base for group visits. There’s no need to book ahead, unless you’re planning to attend a large-scale event to give operators the flexibility they need.

Melton Borough Council manages two public toilets: one at Wilton Road car park and one at St Mary’s car park in Melton Town Centre. These facilities are:

  • Open between 8am and 8pm every day of the year (except for Christmas Day, Boxing Day and New Year’s Day)
  • Fully accessible
  • Equipped with baby changing facilities and cots
  • Charge a 50p access fee

Changing Places Toilets

Melton Town Centre also offers Changing Places toilets for visitors who need more space and specialist equipment. These enhanced facilities include:

Shopmobility Melton

Shopmobility Melton offers hire of mobility equipment for day or extended use, making the town centre easy to explore for all visitors. While they can often accommodate same day requests, advance booking is recommended as availability cannot always be guaranteed. Shopmobility opening hours are:

  • Tuesdays: 9:30am – 3:00pm
  • Fridays (March to December): 9:30am – 12:30pm
  • Saturdays: 9:30am – 12:30pm
