The 7-acre visitor attraction is open to the public 364 days a year and welcomes 35,000 visitors annually. The windmill is at the heart of the site, and visitors are free to explore the building.
The living mill
Built from local ironstone and topped with brick, the Windmill is a five-story tower mill circa 1814. It has an ogee cap and fantail. Originally with six patent sails, known as a Six Arm Lincolnshire Cross. It is one of only four six-sailed windmills remaining in the country and is now a grade 2 listed mill.
Windmill Tearooms
Enjoy lunch in our vintage-designed Tearooms or high tea alfresco style in the beautiful settings on two-hundred-year-old millstone tables. Relax in a bygone gem with family and friends. Enjoy traditional, home-cooked food at the Wymondham Windmill Tearooms. We use our very own homegrown vegetables, as well as other locally sourced, organic ingredients in our kitchen.
For the children, we have a playground with swings, a slide and fort, a playhouse and a large grassy area, as well as a vehicle track for younger children and a woodland puzzle trail through our two-acre woodland of Native British Trees. Perfect for all the family, and group bookings are also welcome.
Event hire & party venue
The Millstone Barn at Wymondham Windmill offers a charming countryside venue for private hire, ideal for birthdays, weddings, anniversaries, corporate events, and more. With its blend of rustic character and modern facilities, the barn provides a warm, flexible space suited to both relaxed and formal gatherings.
A variety of catering options are available to suit your event, from traditional afternoon teas and hearty buffets to hog roasts and à la carte dining. Our experienced team works closely with you to ensure every detail is covered, and a fully equipped bar is on hand to complement your menu with a wide selection of drinks.
Stay at the Windmill
The Windmill opened its CL Caravan site in May 2013. With stunning views over the historic village of Wymondham, Rutland County and the Leicestershire countryside, the site is already proving to be a must with visitors. We have five beautifully appointed pitches with electric hookups and water onsite; toilet facilities are located next to the tearooms. Pets and children are welcome, and families are free to use the children’s play facilities even after the site closes to daily visitors.

The Oak Room, sleeps 2 guests
Beautifully appointed one-bedroom cottage has been awarded 9.8 by Booking.com Reviews and is an ideal place to stay while you visit family or explore all of what Rutland and rural Leicestershire has to offer. The cottage consists of an open plan lounge/kitchen. The bedroom has a good sized en suite and enjoys views over the surrounding countryside and village. The cottage can be enjoyed as a bed and breakfast or self-catering accommodation, and is set within the acres of the windmill site.

Here at Wymondham Windmill we are dedicated to providing a stress free, fully tailored and boutique experience for your special day. Our dedicated team is always on hand and available to help, and will take the time and care necessary to make sure your wedding is perfect. Our beautiful, ‘Barn Style’ private function building is included in all of our wedding packages. The Barn features a full fitted bar and stunning views over the Rutland Countryside – the perfect backdrop to make wonderful memories and photos to remember them.

Letters by Jenni is a calligraphy and creative studio based at Wymondham Windmill, where visitors can discover the art of beautiful handwriting through both finished pieces and hands on experiences. Founded by Jenni, a former graphic designer turned award winning lettering artist, the studio blends traditional calligraphy with a relaxed, modern approach that makes creativity feel accessible to everyone. Working across paper, ink and carefully curated materials, Jenni creates bespoke calligraphy for weddings, events and meaningful keepsakes, alongside a range of thoughtfully designed stationery and gifts. Alongside her commissions and product range, Jenni also runs workshops and creative sessions from the studio, offering a welcoming space for people of all abilities to learn calligraphy and hand lettering.
The Makers Millhouse is a relaxed, family friendly craft studio where creativity and connection come together. Designed with both children and adults in mind, it offers a welcoming space to slow down, spend time together and enjoy making something by hand.
At the heart of the studio is a simple “choose, make and enjoy” approach. Visitors can pick from a range of creative experiences. Whether you are popping in after a walk, meeting friends, or planning a day out with the kids, it is an easy, no pressure way to get creative without needing to prepare or bring anything with you.

Katherine Staples creates abstract ceramic sculpture from her studio at Wymondham Windmill, where visitors can see both the making process and the finished work. With a background in Design Crafts from De Montfort University and an MA in Studio Ceramics from Loughborough University, her practice is grounded in both technical skill and a strong artistic voice.
Inspired largely by the sea and the movement of water, Katherine’s sculptures and wall pieces explore form, texture and flow through clay. Her work can be viewed in the adjoining gallery and commissioned to suit individual spaces, while the studio also offers others the chance to enjoy working with clay themselves through classes and creative sessions in a welcoming environment.
The Riding Simulator offers something genuinely different at the Windmill. Roo, a life-sized mechanical horse by Racewood, walks, trots and canters, and is even capable of advanced dressage movements such as piaffe and half pass. It is an impressive and realistic training tool for riders wanting to improve position, balance and feel in a calm, controlled setting.
Sessions are suitable for a range of riders and can be tailored by either the instructor or rider controlling the horse. Guests can ride in a GP or dressage saddle, wearing their usual riding clothes or comfortable trousers with sensible footwear. Whether you are building confidence, refining technique or simply curious to try something new, it is a memorable and highly effective experience.
