New local community arts project launches in the heart of Melton Mowbray.

Part of Creative Leicestershire’s Creative Spaces Project ‘Animated Leicestershire Towns’, the project called Kick Up The Arts, is a week long event full to the brim of creative activities for the whole community.

Launching on the 27th of November. The project will run from until the 3rd of December and aims to celebrate local artists, showcase aspiring young artists, and bring people in the community together in a local venue to share in the joy of getting creative. It will be a hub for skills sharing and opportunities for young and adult artists to network and explore further opportunities and career pathways, as well for all the community to access free creative activities and learn new skills.

The event will also explore Melton’s local heritage, celebrating the town and provide space for people to explore what the future looks like for Melton as a thriving creative culture. This will be captured through an activity called ‘The Big Melton Doodle’ and will form part of a final piece of art that will be displayed as a lasting legacy of the project to inspire others and act as a contribution to the future heritage of the town.

‘I’m really excited to be working on this project alongside professional local artists. We’re really keen to create a space that is engaging and inspiring, as well as interactive and enjoyable to all. We’re looking forward to linking with local schools, community groups and professional enterprises offering workshops and drop in sessions open for all, in a space that delivers an experience to remember. We hope the project will be a way to build a creative community for everyone, helping to support wellbeing through creative activities, and a spring-board for future creativity in the town’ Ellie Lovett, Project Lead

Drop – in creative sessions are free for everyone to access and learn creative skills such as print making, painting and collage and you’ll be free to explore the space and meet artists in residence.

The project will also provide young people access to expertise, knowledge and skills of experienced artists, as well as advice and support from creative professionals, enabling them to harness their creative flair and further pathways in the industry. The space will also showcase next generation artists from local schools, in an all week art exhibition – open for all to visit.

Meet the Artists

Ellie Lovett

I studied Fine Art at De Montfort University and am now a self-employed artist, working in

Melton. I produce original artworks and commissioned artwork and sell original art, prints and products online. I also lead creative workshops and work part time at a performing arts academy in Leicester with young people. I have a huge passion for sharing creativity and following further study in Art Therapy, promoting the benefits creativity has on our health and wellness. I have lived in Melton all my life. I love the rural qualities of the market town, its connection to heritage and the local amenities available. I believe Melton has an abundance of talent and skills within our local community, adults and young people that through this project I am keen to showcase and celebrate.

Fi Moszoro

Passionate about art from a young age, I’ve honed my skills through qualifications in fine art, graphic design, and textiles. Armed with a degree in product design and development from London College of Fashion, I boast 12 years of industry expertise as a senior designer. Recently returning to my hometown after working abroad, I’m eager to connect with like-minded creatives and give back to the community. Currently, I’m channelling my creative energy into my own digital design company.

I’m excited to be part of the Kick Up the Arts project uniting communities through creativity, and igniting a vibrant cultural resurgence.

Vicky Harknett

Vicky Harknett is a painter and printmaker, specialising in lino printing. She works from her garden studio in Frisby on the Wreake, drawing inspiration from the natural world and finding beauty in the ordinary. Having studied Fine Art at university and worked as a secondary school art teacher, Vicky now teaches lino printing workshops for beginners and takes part in open studio events so that the public can watch her working and learn more of the printmaking process. She also creates drypoint etchings and collagraph prints, using recycled materials and repurposing materials that would otherwise go to waste, and is excited to be sharing her creative skills and being part of the Kick Up The Arts community project.

Kat Wojcik

I’m Kat, a self taught artist, who embarked on an exhilarating art adventure during the lockdown period. I’m constantly learning and experimenting with new materials, techniques and styles, always pushing the boundaries of my artistic abilities. Taking inspiration from the world around me, I aim to capture the beauty and tranquillity of nature in my artwork. With passion for sustainability I eagerly explore the realm of up cycling materials, breathing new life into objects. Participating in Animated Artist Project is an amazing opportunity to share my practice and creative skills with others and make a positive impact on people in the community. I’m looking forward to collaborating with other artists and professionals as part of the event, which I’m sure will inspire and leave a lasting impression on our town.
