The Queens Platinum Jubilee Celebrations

A busy events packed programme is promised for the extended Jubilee Bank Holiday in the Borough of Melton. The Jubilee runs from Thursday 2nd June to Sunday 4th June and celebrates HM Queen’s 70 years on the throne.

A range of organisations have come together to ensure a wide programme of events during the celebrations.

Throughout the weekend a Fun Fair will be operating on Play Close with rides also available on a model train.

To mark this momentous Platinum Jubilee year, Melton Carnegie Museum is putting together an exhibition ‘Melton’s Royal Connections‘ looking at the royal visitors that Melton has received through the ages. The exhibition opens from 21st May – 17th September 2022.  Special opening hours Sunday 5th June 10:00am – 16:30pm.  There will also be half term children’s activities celebrating the Jubilee.

The weekend also sees activities across the weekend at the Stockyard.  With live music, children’s entertainment and Makers Market, featuring the Jazz Cats and many more.

In the skies, a Lancaster Bomber will stage a Flyby on the Thursday (14:30) and Friday (12:45) with a Hurricane Flypast on the Saturday (12:42) and  Sunday (14:24).

For those who want to exercise the Melton parkrun 5K is on Saturday at 9am with a Melton Junior parkrun 2K is on Sunday at 9am.

Thursday 2nd of June

The Jubilee celebrations starts with Melton Mowbray Town Crier  undertaking the ‘Proclamation’ at 2pm announcing the lighting of the beacons in the evening

Music and dancing too from Want2Dance in the Market Place too on the afternoon of Thursday 2nd June.

Lighting of the Jubilee Beacon at the Defence Animal Centre from 8.30pm

  • Pipers playing ‘Diu Regnare’ at 9.35pm
  • Buglers undertaking the Bugle Call – ‘Majesty’ at 9.40pm
  • The beacon will be lit at 9.45pm, and to coincide with their lighting, the ‘Song for the Commonwealth.’

The event will take place in the field at the front of Remount Barracks. Limited parking will be available and signposted.

Friday 3rd of June

The Friday afternoon sees ‘Concert in the Park‘ organised by the incoming Mayor at the Band Stand in Play Close Park 12pm-4pm

Followed by a Jubilee Friday Classic Car Special in the Town Centre with live music and delicious food and drink on offer 4pm-10pm

Saturday 4th June

On the Saturday sees the street market with the potential addition of a few more stands.

Music and dancing too from Want2Dance in the Market Place too on the afternoon of  Saturday 4th June.

Weekend of live music, children’s entertainment and Makers Market 8am-5pm

Sunday 5th June

Jubilee Jamboree @ The Stockyard 8am-5pm

Big finale on Sunday is the Jubilee Vintage and Craft Fair in the Town Centre with Trade Stalls, Craft Stalls, Vintage, Steam Punk, Music, Dancing, Classic Cars, Jeeps and Bikes.

Melton Bloom will be ensuring the plant holders will be looking their best for the Celebrations complimented by Willow Arches on display in the Queens Jubilee Gardens by Mucky Lane (Parkside carpark).

It is a great opportunity to celebrate the local area, the Jubilee and our fantastic local businesses.
